One Piece Figuarts Zero Roronoa Zoro Rengoku Onigiri Released!

MegaHouse has been making One Piece collectors slog through delay after delay throughout the last few months, but Bandai has kept on chugging along and gotten every new One Piece Figuarts Zero figure out right on time. So it’s no surprise that, just as promised, the September 2013 Bandai One Piece Figuarts Zero Roronoa Zoro Rengoku Onigiri Battle Ver. figure has now been released overseas…

Figuarts Zero One Piece Roronoa Zoro Rengoku Onigiri Battle Ver Box

Well, I guess this Zoro figure isn’t going to win any awards for “the best-looking figure in its packaging”, huh? It’s not a terrible box–Bandai clearly tried–but the logistics of this figure made it such that this particular Roronoa Zoro figure was never going to look very good in the package.

As you can see from the packaged photo, the Figuarts Zero Rengoku Onigiri Roronoa Zoro comes boxed with all three of his swords packaged separately from the main body. This particular figure isn’t one where you’re ever going to want to display the figure without the trio of swords, but doubtless making them removable saved Bandai thousands of dollars by being able to use smaller packaging (and thus saved us dollars as well).

Roronoa Zoro One Piece Figuarts Zero Rengoku Onigiri Figure Bandai 2013

The more I see it, the more I like this second Battle Version Figuarts Zero figure of Roronoa Zoro. Whereas I absolutely love the original Figuarts Zero Roronoa Zoro Battle Ver. figure I reviewed last year, that Zoro figure is more a static, “poised for battle” figure. Meanwhile, this is a very dynamic Zoro figure, in the middle of a deadly attack!

With the new Sanji Battle Ver. 2 figure coming out in December 2013 and Luffy Battle Ver. released during the summer, the OnePiece Monster Trio will be complete by the end of the year!

Back of One Piece Figuarts Zero Roronoa Zoro Battle Ver Timeskip FigureBandai has become the master of effects pieces, and they’ve done another knockout job with all of the special effects on the Figuarts Zero Roronoa Zoro Rengoku Onigiri figure. I love the varying amount of opacity on the different effects pieces, and the way that the translucent plastic transitions in color, such as the slash effect behind Zoro changing from yellow to clear and then back to yellow. Bandai could teach every other company in the world a few things about effects pieces, that’s for sure.

Roronoa Zoro Sword Detail on Figuarts Zero One Piece Battle Ver 2 FigureThe detail on Zoro’s swords is far better than I was expecting, based on the glamor shots that Bandai released of the figure prototypes. All three swords look great and have the proper paint deco on them that they ideally should.

One Piece Figuarts Zero Battle Ver Monkey D Luffy and Roronoa Zoro Onigiri FiguresAnd for those wondering–yes, the new timeskip Zoro figure looks pretty killer displayed next to the Figuarts Zero Luffy Battle Ver. figure, don’t you think?

The One Piece Roronoa Zoro Battle Ver. 2 Rengoku Onigiri figure has now been released in Asia, and will be arriving in the United States and other countries in early to mid-October, 2013. You can pre-order your Figuarts Zero Roronoa Zoro Battle Ver. #2 figure for $34.99 plus no tax and free shipping if you haven’t done so already. I’ll add a full review of Zoro once he reaches America next month.

  1. Would it be better to buy these figures (Red Hawk Luffy, Timeskip Diable Jambe Sanji and this Zoro) now, or wait until they are all released? I’m just afraid that prices will go up when they are all released. Will this be the case?

    • It’s tough to know, Braden. Traditionally Zoro figures are extremely popular and tend to climb in price–the first Zoro Battle Ver. figure is getting rather price on the aftermarket right now. Personally, I’d just order the Luffy Battle Ver. and Zoro Battle Ver. figures off Amazon now–you get free shipping, pay no tax, and they don’t charge you until the figures ship. Luffy and Zoro Figuarts figures almost never drop in price, so there’s no harm in ordering them now.

      • Thanks for the tip, I now have a Red Hawk Luffy arriving on a few weeks! Yes! I was going to preorder Zoro, but the delivery is estimated just after moving house, so maybe not yet…
